I read the post on this page that says theres a little trick to changing drive letters. well I think something should be cleared up. you cannot change the system drive letter. (the one windows loads to.) not that way, anyway. if someone one happens to know a way that you can easily change the boot partition drive letter, please post it cuz i sure would like to know. thanks

Im not sure exactly what your asking. Are you wanting to boot from something aside from the primary master? Can you give me the drive setup on your computer. And be a little more specific about what it is that you want to do?

The BIOS determines what the boot sequence is, and most BIOS manufacturers have limited options to boot from. Usually HD0 (the Master hard drive), CDROM, Floppy, or Network. Without hacking into the BIOS and reflashing it, wich is something I definitly will NOT be covering here, we are left with few alternatives. This is one of the reasons
I always liked floppy drives.

You can create a bootable floppy with a BOOT.INI on it, this will allow you to boot to the floppy and decide what harddrive/partition you want to boot to.

Of course if you just want boot to a different physical harddrive and not just a different partition you could simply move that harddrive to the end of the IDE cable, thus making it HD0.

As it is that Im not sure exactly what your needs are it is difficult to guide you better.

More precisley you asked how to change the boot drive letter. The problem is that a computer doesnt boot to a "drive letter". A "drive letter" is only seen once an operating system is booted into. I have written an aritcle explaining the boot process you can find it here http://pcs.suite101.com/article.cfm/wind... . As you can see from the artice, the computer doesnt care about the "drive letter". A drive letter is only of concern to humans, once the operating system is running.
