Spybot - Search & DestroyA short tutorial on Spybot Search and DestroyI decided to expand on my Spybot tutorial and have even included some screenshots to make the walk-thru better.
Spybot S&D is a very good, well proven piece of software designed to rid your system of most malware. Installation is very straight forward. As with all well designed programs simply accepting the defaults will suffice in 99% of cases. After you get Spybot installed you will be on the start screen.(see Fig 1). Choose "Update" in the Navigation Pane to the left and then find "Search for Updates"(see Fig 2) at the top of the screen. After it downloads the updates you will see the updates listed (see Fig 3), and check the boxes next to each of the ones you want to get. I suggest downloading all the updates. After they are finished downloading and installing you will see a green check mark next to each of them (see Fig 4): Now go to the Navigation pane, the portion on the left side of your screen, and choose Immunize. If there are any new immunizations available it will let you know (see Fig 5). In the example, all immunizations are already in effect. If you get a message saying you need to "block XXX bad products", simply click on the green cross at the top of the screen that says "Immunize". Now its time to run the acttual scan. In the Navigation Pane to the left choose "Search & Destroy". At the top of the new screen (see Fig 6) you will see a magnifying glass with the words "Check for problems" click on this. After the scan is finished you will see all the spyware that was found in the main viewing area (see Fig 7). At this point all you need to do is hit "Fix Selected Problems". Since everything is already selected you don't even need to make any choices. At this point you are totally done with Spybot and can exit the program.
