Microsoft at its Tech.Ed conference in Boston released the results of a research conducted on over 300 million PCs.
Microsoft's research has found out that every 311th PC has been infected by a malware. This research is part of the major report Microsoft released on security trends. Each Windows operating system is shipped with a Windows Malicious Software removal tool which is the same tool that is helping them progress with the research. Last year alone, this software has removed 16 million malware programs from 6 million PCs. The software has been used to scan systems 2.7 billion times during this period, and on average, the chances of finding a malware is 0.32%, according to Microsoft. If every 311th PC has a malware, then the percentage of computers affected by malwares is 0.32% which is negligible compared to the number of PCs that are shipped with Windows OS. This comes as a shot in the arm for Microsoft as well as all the PC backers. This should keep the PC accusers as security threat shut for a while. Microsoft's OneCare that launched late last month should be sufficient to deal with either malwares of with any kinds of viruses written for Windows. Head to the Tech.Ed website for latest info from the conference.
